The path to become an Exceptional Leader

We shouldn’t drive the journey of our careers alone. My name is Patricia Juarez Muñoz, Senior (Staff) engineer at AWS, and I also struggled in my career. Each struggle had a lesson that many other leaders have learned.

I used to not completely own my career, I depended on my manager guidance and others feedback. I once found myself working hard, focused on the business and customers, but without a clear career plan or path forward chosen. The result was that leadership didn’t support my growth in the role I was working on, until I had decided my next step. At another time I had a manager who didn’t guide me and didn’t align with me. Since I didn’t know to manage myself, I didn’t identify the gaps in our relationship. And our misalignment impacted the team and organization. It wasn't until I took ownership of my career development and dove deep into emotional intelligence that everything changed.

I am not a VP nor the best writer, but I learned very valuable leadership lessons in my career of +17 years. I think I found the way to succeed and become an excellent leader faster, and I want to share it with you. I believe we should own our careers with a defined plan focused in our growth. It’s a long journey that I think is better to not sail alone. That’s why I am creating this newsletter and look forward to meet you and work towards you in our career journeys to become excellent leaders.

I want to share with you the lessons I learned and to build a community of support while we navigate our leadership careers. I'm dedicated to publishing several posts for you every month, guiding you through the four pillars of emotional intelligence (self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management), while executing the career plan we will draft and refine together.
